The nation is still reeling after recent events in Newtown, Connecticut. Now that more facts are in authorities have confirmed that the individual, previous thought to be the shooter’s father was in fact the shooters mother, Nancy Lanza, 52. Mr. Lanza killed his mother in their Newtown home, after shooting his mother in the face Mr. Lanza proceeded to the elementary school where his mother taught kindergarten, equipped with a semiautomatic rifle (.223 Bushmaster) and two semiautomatic pistols, .10mm Glock and a .9mm Sig Sauer.
According to the Medical Examiner all 20 children were shot 3-11 times, the young victims were only 6 and 7 years of age. One of the victims just made 7 this past Tuesday, most of the young victims were identified via photograph as there was no need to put their parents through any more heart ache by having to see their babies without their youthful light. The 6 heroic adults…there are no words that can be said, they made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety of their charges.
According to Lieutenant Vance, “…he was not voluntarily let in…” “He forced his way in,” the faculty reacted quickly and heroically from the first shot to the very last.
The President is said to arrive sometime today to speak with the families and loved ones of the deceased. There is a vigil set for 4p eastern time the president is expected to speak.
As I sit here writing these words I am in disbelief, I’m still shocked at the notion of harming an innocent child. I know that this man was a sick individual and yes maybe prescription drugs (w/adverse affects) played a role in Mr. Lanza’s “unhinging,” but when is enough enough?
On a side note: I’d just like to say that I type these words with a heavy heart, I’m finding it a bit hard to believe that we walk the planet with such sick and dangerous souls.
